I was surprised that this clip of Jahnavi leading kirtan at the Yogamaya yoga studio in New York has had over 30,000 views. Either lots of people have been sharing it with their friends, or a small number of people have been watching it many times.
It might be that people are becoming more interested in kirtan, or it might be that they actually always were – but now we have video-sharing software to make it more accessible. I don’t know.
Perhaps the famous prophecy of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, that kirtan would be sung in ‘every town and village,’ is very slowly becoming a reality. Personally – I don’t know.
