Today I thought of this fact
observing a father with his two
small daughters, as the main word
he uttered, and not kindly, was “NO!”

We are “cheta” or consciousness–
marginal energy of Krishna,
which means we are a
product of our association.
We have freedom to choose how
to be influenced–who to cooperate with,
but the choice to be in matter
restricts and hides our nature.
We rebellious souls
in a virtual world of make
believe, born repeatedly
into the smog of ignorance.
The ego makes us think we
are the center, but that is selfishness,
and selfishness contracts us,
whereas giving expands us (revealing our soul).
Our sense of self is threatened
by perceived non-existence so
we think to add to our life will help,
ignorant that our pure self is enough.
Forgetting our self and Krishna
we look for happiness, freedom, fulfillment
in matter, not knowing matter is meant
for limitations, doubts, enmity, heartbreak.
Today I thought of this fact
observing a father with his two
small daughters, as the main word
he uttered, and not kindly, was “NO!”
He was disturbed by their natural
curiosity and openhearted exploring,
wanting to control them and make
them behave, causing them to rebel.
This always saddens me, as
I was brought up in that way,
and it has taken me so long
to recover and open my heart.
We are like those children
with the desire for freedom
and happiness, but hearing
“NO” at every turn, but still trying.
An intelligent person
questions why there are “NOs”(restrictions)
when our desire is to be expansive,
loving perfectly and forever.
Animals are forced to act
according to their instincts,
yet humans want to go beyond
physical restrictions and fly.
Human life is the beginning
of self awareness, like being on parole
with the chance to realize our
full potential of love and freedom.
Success will come in
realizing our true spiritual life,
through the holy name of Krishna
and “sadhu sanga” (holy company).
Finding a “home knowing” person
we learn the “home going” method,
hearing words that hit the home
of our heart, encouraging us to go forward.
Like orphans reunited with
their true loving family
we realize the complete
happiness of our pure hearts’ desire.
